Meet Kristin Derrin.
Naturally, being a Super Mum, when Kristin saw a real need in the market for health kids products, she set out to meet that need and create ideal, nutritious products for kids, and thus founded June Superfoods.
Kristin's favourite indulgence is a chocolate croissant, and in fact, she enjoyed them so much during her second pregnancy she's fairly certian her second child, Jaydin, is part croissant.
Whilst she's got her hands full juggling two kids under two and June Superfoods, Kristin takes it all in her stride.
You’re Mum to?
Alexa June (2) and Jaydin Charles (1 month)
We love what your company June Superfoods stands for. Tell us a little bit about your company, and how it all came about.
After my first baby Alexa, I noticed there weren’t a lot of healthy products on the market that I trusted. So I took my education and passion for nutrition and formulated a range kids superfood drink mixes to take the place of a sugary juice or add to a smoothie for extra nutrients without all the excess sugar. A lot of products for kids are not certified organic or have hidden sugars or fillers. So I basically took matters into my own hands and created the ideal product for my kids, a blend of cognitive enhancing superfoods, individually packaged for easy nutrition on the go.
June was my Grandma’s name and she always told us to be honest and do our best. These values are the backbone of June Superfoods, the best organic ingredients and honest labelling parents can trust.
Funniest parenting moment so far?
Just the other day actually, I was negotiating snack time with my daughter while she threw her yogurt on the floor. I proceeded to clean it up all while breastfeeding Jaydin. I looked at myself and was like seriously, this is what I’m doing right now and just laughed. Next level :)
What’s your motto in life?
My Dad who passed away suddenly in 2013 would always tell me: “It always works out.”
If you had to choose between George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio (emphasis on had), who would you pick?
Definitely Leo :)
Top tip for parents who have a child who’d rather stick a fork in their eye than try something new?
Hide it: in a smoothie, a juice, in hummus, in a quesadilla (cheese, spinach, tomato grilled between two tortillas) could make in a toastie as well.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate Croissant. A French Patisserie opened in our neighborhood when I was 3 months pregnant with Jaydin. Pretty sure he is part chocolate croissant.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in the past ten years?
That everything good or bad leads to growth which is always a positive for me. When things get tough I know it’s a time to grow which always leads to bigger and better opportunities and experiences.
What song immediately puts you in a great mood?
I grew up snowboarding and when my husband and I moved to Aspen Colorado I would always snowboard to MGMT Kids, so when I hear it now I immediately go to a good place and feel great!
The one item you never leave home without...?
What qualities do you find the most attractive in a person?
Honesty, Authenticity, Confidence, and Funny
Who or what inspires you?
2 things that inspire me are: Striving to be the best version of yourself everyday and always finding the good in everyone and everything.
In three words, describe yourself as a mum.
Positive, Energetic, Healthy ;) and I love to laugh!
