Baby in a bar

A baby walks into a bar...

Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke. But for some, it’s completely out of line.

But as every parent knows, sometimes a trip to the local watering hole is the perfect pick-me-up after a long week of wiping snotty noses and dealing with tantrums.

But when your Super Nanny has a night off, what's a parent to do?

Whilst some see no wrong in bringing their child with them to have a drink at the local bar, others see it as a big no-no.

Naysayers argue that bringing a baby in tow for a night out drinking is self-centred. Your kids may be the apple of your eye, but to pub regular Bob, they may be a cause of serious annoyance. Particularly if there are tears.

Additionally, some argue that taking your child to a venue where misbehaviour can be on full display can set a bad example.

Sweet Home Alabama’s Melanie certainly thinks so.

Not to mention, it’s not always your kid’s actions you need to worry about...but the actions of fellow pub-goers whose judgement won’t be at their best, which can be a dangerous environment for an infant.

At the same time, common sense will tell you whether your chosen venue is 'family friendly'. Most pubs, before the sun sets, are a great place to take the little ones for a bite to eat, or for a snooze. It pays to do some research before heading out, to be sure that the outing is enjoyable for you, your bub, and other patrons.

When it comes down to it, if you as the child's parent think it's the right decision, and your child is at no risk of being in danger, then hey, whatever floats your boat.

A good rule of thumb is that once it gets dark, it’s time to head. Once the sun goes down, shenanigans are a plenty in a pub, and things can get very messy, very quickly. So best to save those rowdier nights for when your bub's at home safely with a Super Nanny, so you can party it up (of course).

Regardless of where you sit, this clip is bound to give you the giggles. Perhaps babies shouldn't be allowed in bars if this is the outcome...😂

With love,

My Super Nanny.
