Luke Mcalister

Meet Luke Mcalister; a proud born and bred New Zealander with a huge heart to boot.

For the better part of his life he has been playing professional rugby, hence he now resides in France and plays for Toulouse.

Luke is Dad to two gorgeous kids; whom are well and truly doted upon. In between croissants and cuddles, he aims to install some old fashion chivalry into them. High 5 to that.

You’re a Super Dad to?

Astyn (11) and Connor (6).

When I can be, I'm always there for my kids. My situation is a bit different to most as I reside in France for my job and my children live in New Zealand.

So I only get to see them twice a year (June/July) when I finish the rugby season. They then either come over for Christmas or recently, they got to enjoy 6 weeks of summer here in Toulouse, France.

Thank god for Face Time and Skype which we try to do most days.

My daughter is going to be living with me until the end of November; so we have found a home tutor and enrolled her in a school for 3 days of the week.

What quality do you hope to install in your kids?

Currently I'm trying to teach my son how to be a gentleman, which he is not too keen on! Such as opening the door for his sister and making him say 'ladies first'.

Being well mannered, kind and honest - also being grateful and having respect for their elders.

Favourite quality in a woman?

Being able to switch off and live in the moment.

Favourite quality in a man?

Just being a good mate.

If you could teleport anywhere, where would you go?

Biggest lesson your kids have taught you?

They see things for what they are.

They say exactly what they are thinking, and sometimes this can be extremely cute... or completely mortifying!

So by observing my children and the way they see the world, it forces me to modify my outlook on life and this makes me look at things in a much more positive way.

We can all learn a lot from the innocence of our children.

What’s your present state of mind?

My present state of mind is one of tranquility and gratitude that I have my two beautiful healthy children - who have the strongest bond, playing in the pool in front of me. As I answer these questions the sun is shining and I have my best friend/partner by my side and we are all happy. I couldn't ask for much more than that.

What thrills you?

Anything to get the adrenalin pumping...! Next on my list is sky diving.

Do you moisturise?

Now and then.

Go-to cologne?

Anything Tom Ford.

Funniest line one of your kids has said to you?

Woke up one morning with a sore neck, so I said to Connor; "I must have slept funny". He replied with; "Well Dad, next time you should just sleep normal".

If you weren’t playing Rugby, you would be…

Somewhere in the fitness industry.

If you had a spare 4 hours, what would you do ?

Most precious item you own?

My external hard drive that houses all of my memories.

Describe yourself as a Dad…

I encourage my children to pursue whatever interests them, not what interests me. I would never push them into doing something they don't want to.

I try to be firm but fair on them at the same time. When I have them, I try to have as much fun with them as I can and enjoy every minute with them. They are the reason I live and I will do everything I can to ensure they have what they need. Also it's important that they are happy in life.

The love I have for my children is difficult to put into words.

With love,

My Super Nanny
