BIO:

Jess Dempsey is the founder of Australian fashion blog, What Would Karl Do? During a trip to Paris in 2010, Jess found herself on the steps of 31 Rue Cambon and immediately she was in awe. The fabled address is where fashion royalty walked and legends made, its history, architecture, a milliner turned couturier known as Coco and now Karl.

Back in Melbourne with bursting suitcases and a mind full of inspiration, Jess left her days as a Visual Merchandiser and Celebrity Stylist to start her blog, because she realised the best way to continue her fashion and styling journey was to share it with others.

Jess works with a perfectly considered wardrobe of high street brands and high end designers, and always with a hint of Chanel. “It is important to buy the right chain-store pieces and invest in the designer item each season,” explained Jess, “It’s about finding out what works for you.”

Dedicated to pushing the fashion boundaries, Jess believes in being “Fashion Confident”. Her personal style is unique and playful, which she happily shares with her readers through aspirational editorials, photographed exclusively by her good friend Karen Woo.

Over the past 5 years, What Would Karl Do? has grown to be a recognizable brand and Jess as its face. As Jess’ fashion journey evolves, so does her blog. Her candid story telling has allowed her followers to see her through her two pregnancies and maternity style, local and international fashion weeks, campaigns and ambassadorships with Australia’s leading brands, designer collaborations, TVC and presenting work.

What Would Karl Do? inspires the fashion lover to dare to be fashion confident and invites the reader to take a little piece of Jess’ style with them.

Away from the blog, Jess has been married to her husband Josh for seven years and they have two beautiful boys, Aston (4) and Will (16months). Jess is a proclaimed Melbourne coffee snob, shoe-addict and Chanel lover and prefers a cosy night in than a crazy night out, gnocchi over salad and chocolate over ice-cream. Giving back is really important to Jess and she is a proud ambassador for the Very Special Kids Foundation. Jess spends most of her weekends with her friends and family, enjoying a Maltese feast every Sunday and lusting over her next trip to her happy place, Paris. Jess is still trying to figure out that work life balance thing.

You're a Super Muma to?

I am a mother of two, Aston (4) and Will (16months). I love being a mum, I had my first son when I was 28 and it has been the most challenging yet best job in the world. They put my life into perspective and will always come first.

What have your children taught you in the last few months?

That time goes so fast. You don’t realize it until you have kids or turn 30! I cant believe how fast children grow, in one year, they complete so many mile stones, I have learned to take it all in and enjoy it, no matter how hard it can get sometimes, I know it will be over way too soon.

Who inspires you?

Lots of people inspire me, from my mum, who taught me everything I know about life and motherhood, to my aunty whom I share a blog with (themummyconfidentials.com) through to working fashion mums like Victoria Beckham and Rachel Zoe.

You are the founder of Australian fashion blog, What Would Karl Do?. Can you give us more of an insight on how you started your blog and what your style of fashion is? (see above in bio)

How do you keep a balance between your work life and life with your family?

This is the hardest thing of all, I couldn’t figure it out unti earlier this year. I gave my boys all my time and when I could squeeze in an event, a trip , fashion week or work I would but they always came first. It got really hard when my second son Will was born and I was juggling two kids, a home, trying to work and keep up with everything, it was the beginning of a lot of anxiety for me. I was so overwhealemed that I just had no me time at all, it was work or kids. I decided it was time to get a babysitter to help out during the days and luckily Aston started kinder. I now have a little free time for me amongst the mother duties, home duties and work so I think I am almost there but not quite. At the moment I do most of my work when the kids are in bed, which doesn’t leave much room for reality tv watching.

Being a fashion blogger and mother do you have some favourite maternity labels?

Well, as a matter of fact, you might see a fresh new maternity label pop up soon. Something I have been working on and wanted for a long time. However, I did wear a lot of ASOS maternity!

What is your biggest fear?

Death- lets just not talk about this.

What are the key pieces of advice you have for other super mumas out there?

Life can get so hard sometimes, remember you are doing a great job, and try not to forget about yourself. A happy mum is a happy baby. Your children are the most precious gift you will ever receive in your life, your one true accomplishment that lasts forever, enjoy every moment with them.

What is your best beauty tip?

Stay hydrated (I should take my own advice!)

Never again will I.... wear super high heels whilst pregnant

What's in store for 2015?

Brand building WWKD, focusing on The mummy confidentials on YouTube, watching my gorgeous boys grow and be the best mama to them I can be.
