You're a Super Mama to?
My precious Harrison who has recently turned one!
What has your son taught you in the last few months?
He's taught me to take each day as it comes. To embrace each moment and create memories from the simplest things.
Who inspires you?
I am inspired by so many things! As I am a visual learner I particularly love Instagram. I am inspired by so many people through their images that tell their story. I have connected with so many like-minded people through this social media platform. I know a lot of people can get over-whelmed by social media and use it as a form of comparison but I really use it as an uplifting tool. I follow people who are positive, honest and inspirational. If I don't like something it's easy to unfollow!
How do you keep a balance between your work life and life with your family?
My family and my health has become my number one priority. With the support of our amazing families I have been able to return to my teaching role one day a week and the rest of the time I spend with my little fella. Having some time out each week is also super important for me and again with the support of my husband (who is father and husband of the year!!) and our families I am able to do this. When Harrison sleeps or often in the evening I reply to emails, blog and tinker with my website.
In 2009 you suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and you were also working as a High School Teacher. How did you get through this and get to where you are today? Is this the reasoning your blog, Pure and Raw unfolded?
The short answer was I stopped. I stopped pushing myself, I stopped teaching and allowed my body the time it needed to recover. I also stopped being so hard on myself (which is a constant battle). I learnt to manage my illness and learnt to pace myself (which was maybe one of the hardest things I have had to do). I was spending a lot of time at home stuck in bed or on the couch. Part of my recovery was to eliminate as many toxic things from my life. I started looking at ingredients in things I was eating and putting on my body. So yes, this is where raw + pure unfolded as I started sharing my non-toxic finds with the world. I found it super hard to find products that worked and were truly non-toxic and spend hours researching and trying products and thought what 'normal' person has the time to do this?!
What is your biggest fear?
Missing out on something. Time goes by so fast and I don't want to miss a thing!
What are the key pieces of advice you have for other super mumas out there?
Take each day as it comes. There are going to be good and bad days. Go easy on yourself and remember the amazing creation you have in your arms that just needs to be loved (I often need to remind myself of this too!!). Don't worry about what anyone else is doing (though I have been known to ask a bazillion questions), just do what works for you and your family.
What is your best beauty tip?
My best beauty tip is to eliminate sugar, preservatives and additives! It's amazing how much sugar in particular effects your skin. Also, watch what you put on your skin. Companies are very clever at marketing their products so you think it's good for you, when in fact it most likely isn't. If you know what the ingredients are it's a good start, or check out my Brand Directory on my website for my go to brands that you can trust.
Don't get too overwhelmed with trying to replace all of your products at once. Start small and replace products as they run out with non-toxic ones.
Never again will I....
Push myself so hard that it affects my health in a negative way. It's ok to say no!
What's in store for 2015?
Number one is to hang out with my son and watch him as he grows and develops. This year I am personally focussing on my fitness, my mantra has become- do less more often. raw + pure has recently had a big make-over so there will be more blog posts and collaborations in store for this year.
